Mitch Zak is one of California’s leading strategists, with 21 years of public policy, political and organizational communications expertise. He has worked in government, business and with non-profit organizations building proficiencies in water, transportation, real estate, public safety, government reform and alternative energy.
Zak leads the firm’s strategic communications practice, managing client activities and company staff. He has worked with several of California’s most notable leaders including Hewlett-Packard President and CEO Meg Whitman and former Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson. Zak served as an advisor and spokesperson for Ms. Whitman’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign, and was Coalitions Director during California’s 2003 Recall Election on behalf of Governor Schwarzenegger.
Strategic planning, message development, media relations and developing communications programs are Zak’s specialty. The focus is achieving client objectives through effective outreach using the best combination of traditional tools and cutting edge technology. Zak has managed Randle project teams for successful programs for the California Association of REALTORS®, Golden State Water Company, California Family Fitness and statewide public safety leaders including sheriffs, district attorneys, police chiefs, rank-and-file peace officers and crime victims.
From on-the-record situations to speechwriting, news conferences to crisis communications, Zak develops powerful news angles that get covered as a result of messages that are informative, timely and persuasive. Zak has successfully placed clients in the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, The Sacramento Bee and other prominent statewide and national print, radio and broadcast television outlets including CNN, CNBC, FOX News and FOX Business. He developed his communications skills as an adviser to former Governor Pete Wilson. Working closely with Governor Wilson, Zak crafted campaigns to enact landmark public safety reforms; served a senior communications official for the California Trade and Commerce Agency and worked as a member of Governor Wilson’s personal staff.
Zak resides in Rocklin with his wife Tami, their son Deuce and daughter Molly. In his spare time, Zak loves to golf and is an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns. Zak earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Press Club and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sacramento Public Relations Association.
